Farmers stage road roko against land acquisition
Vijayawada, May 26 (UNI) Hundreds of farmers belonging to three villages of Kanchikacharla Mandal in Krishna district, were arrested when they squatted on the busy Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway today.
Police said the three-hour long agitation was held to protest against the recent decision of the Andhra Pradesh government to acquire 1600 acres of farm land for setting up a textile and apparel park in the district.
Vehicular traffic came to a standstill, following the road block.
The situation turned worse when passengers of APSRTC buses entered into a heated argument with the agitating farmers.
Police arrested the farmers and restored normal traffic.
