Fanaa, the Da Vinci Code released

Mumbai, May 26 (UNI) Aamir Khan starrer 'Fanaa' and 'The Da Vinci Code' featuring Tom Hanks which were in the midst of controversy for different reasons were released in theatres across Mumbai today.

Except multiplexes like Fun Republic, Inox and 24 Carats in Mumbai, other multiplex owners decided to go ahead with the screening of the Yashraj film and independently negotiated with the producers.

Trade sources said unity of multiplex owners did not last long.

Yashraj had demanded more share in the profits from box office collections, which made the entire multiplex owners group to take a stand against the film. Later, the producers said they were willing to settle for less and seek more share if the film did well.

However, 'Fanaa' faces an 'unofficial ban' in Gujarat as BJP wants actor Aamir Khan to apologise for his reported statements against Gujarat and anti-Narmada dam. The actor has said that he will not apologise.

Single screen theatres went ahead with the bookings of the film which received a huge response.

Meanwhile, section 144 of IPC has been invoked outside theatres screening 'The Da Vinci Code' in order to prevent assembly of protestors against the film. Christians protested against the film for its alleged derogatory references to Jesus Christ. But, the Central government has allowed release of the film with a disclaimer.
