Elections for six council seats held today
Mumbai, May 26 (UNI) The voting for six seats of Legislative Council, to be elected from various local bodies, concluded peacefully today at all six constituencies, according to Chief Electoral Officer U P S Madan.
In Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg local bodies constituency Sena's sitting MLC Anant Tare is pitted against NCP's Bhaskar Jadhav, while in Latur-Osmanabad-Beed local bodies constituency sitting MLC and younger brother of Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh; Delip Deshmukh is pitted against Sanjay Nimbalkar and Atul Bagal.
In Nasik local constituency NCP's sitting MLC Dr Vasant Pawar is taking on Sena's Dashrath Patil, while in Parbhani-Hingolilocal bodies constituency sitting MLC Suresh Deshmukh (Congress) is pitted against BJP's Anil Mudgalkar.
In Amravati local bodies constituency Milind Chimote (Congress) is pitted against sitting MLC of BJP Jagdish Gupta while in Wardha local bodies constituency sitting MLC Ramdas Tadas is taking on BJP's Samir Kunawar.
The counting will be held on May 29.
These elections will be followed by the biennial elections of council to be elected by 289 members of the legislative asembly on June 1.
Thirteen candidates are in the fray for 11 seats and the counting of the votes will be done on June 1 in the evening, sources said.
