Campaigns in NE to spread awareness about central schemes

Shillong, May 26 (UNI) The Centre will organise public information campaigns in the North Eastern states along with other parts of the country to disseminate information about its flagship developmental schemes.

The aim of the campaigns would be to create awareness about schemes such as Bharat Nirman, National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (NREG), National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM), Right to Information Act (RTI), Universal Mid-day Meal Programme and the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).

The campaigns, to be organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, will be held for five days each, a government release said here today.

The campaigns would be organised in cooperation with the Central Media Units, PSUs, banks, state government departments, local elected representatives, leading NGOs and opinion leaders.

The places, to be covered by the campaigns from August 2006 to March 2007, would include Shillong, Jowai, Aizawl, Imphal, Churachandpur, Dimapur, Itanagar, Guwahati, Golaghat and Dibrugarh.
