Arjun Singh desperate to emulate V P Singh: BJP

Jaipur, May 2 (UNI) Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ramdas Agarwal today alleged that Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh was desperate to emulate V P Singh on the reservation issue.

Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Agarwal said Mr Singh's "fatwa" on reservation is purely a political ploy and an attempt to create turmoil in the largely peaceful society.

He alleged that although Parliament has not passed the legislation on providing 27 per cent reservation to the OBCs in institutions of higher education, Mr Singh has ordered its implementation without consulting the authorities which run institutes.

''Unless the infrastructure and number of seats are increased, how could Mr Singh announce the implementation of reservations from June 7 next year,'' Mr Agarwal added.
