A girl tops HSLC examination in Manipur

Imphal, May 26 (UNI) Angelica Laiphrakpam of Nirmalabas School in Imphal topped the High School Leaving Certificate examination 2006, while Dineshor Thoudam of Catholic School got the second position followed by Lasihram Tarajeet of St Jospeh's School, Sangaiprou securing the third position.

Though the first 25 toppers had more boys in the list, the topper was a girl in the HSLC, which was declared today by the Board of Secondary Education in Manipur.

The pass percentage was just 40 percent, improving from last year's which was 39 percent. The students of the private schools performed better pass percentage of 53 compared to government schools, which was just 21 percent.

A total of 24653 students appeared and only 9844 students have passed. About 2482 students passed in first division, 4769 in second and 2593 students in third division.

The results were also announced through the official web site of the state government to make it easier for the students. Large numbers of students thronged the Board office and school premises to see the results.
