5 suicides reported in UP
Lucknow, May 26 (UNI) At least five suicides including one by a penury stricken farmer were reported in Mahoba and Lucknow districts of Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hrs.
According to police here, peeved over parental diapproval, two lovers today committed suicide by consuming poison in Malihabad area of the Uttar Pradesh capital.
The deceased were identified as Rajkumar (24) and Bindeshwari (18). They had an affair for the last six months, but the two families were opposed to their alliance.
Meanwhile, a penury stricken farmer allegedly ended his life by hanging at village Mudhari in Kulpahad tehsil of Mahoba today.
The victim, Jagdish Rawat, had taken Rs one lakh loan from a money-lender last year for agricultural purpose.
However, he failed to recoup his investment due to drought and hailstorm weather conditions.
Since, the money-lender was forcing him to pay back his money, Jagdish was under considerable pressure, police added.
Peeved with the vicious situation, he took the extreme step this morning. His body had been sent for autopsy.
In another incident, a youth incensed at his wife's nagging ways allegedly set himself afire and died at village Rampura village in Charkhari area.
Police said Arjun Kushwaha had got married four months back. But, he was unhappy with his marital life due to his quarrelsome spouse.
Last night, the couple had a fight and Arujun's wife was not on a talking terms with him. This morning, he doused himself with kerosene and set afire, police added.
In another incident, a woman -- identified as Gita of Bhatipura area -- fed up with domestic hardships allegedly consumed poison.
She was rushed to hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
All the four cases were being investigated by the police.
