VS voted popular leader

Kochi, May 25 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, who guided the Left Democratic Front (LDF) into power recently, has been voted as the most popular leader by the readers of a Malayalam magazine.

The gallup poll, conducted among the readers of Malayalasree' also selected 100 others for the awards in different spheres of culture, film and television.

Veteran director Sreekumaran Thampi won the gurupooja' award for his overall contributions to Malayalam cinema while actress K P A C Lalitha was adjudged for Abhinaya ratna' award, jury chairperson Suma Thalolam told a news conference here today.

The awards, consisting of mementos, would be presented at a mega show here in August. Superstar Mammootty, heroine Bhavana, director Roshan Andrews, playback singer Manjeri, actor Anand, actress Priya Raman, industrialist Beena Kannan and journalist Leela Menon were also among the winners.
