UPA Govt should concentrate on CMP: CPI leader

Vijayawada, May 25 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today said the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre should concentrate on the Common Minimum Programme party national secretariat member and MP Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy said today.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said though the Left parties were not happy with the policies of the UPA government, it was extending support to keep the communal forces at bay.

The Congress should not take the Left parties support for granted, he added.

The Left parties, extending outside support to the UPA government would not act as ''remote control,'' the CPI leader said adding ''We will watch the government and fight against their policies.'' Stating that the Congress government had not taken any steps to bring out the agriculture sector from the crisis, he claimed that about 5,000 farmers had committed suicide so far due to mounting debts and loss of crops.
