Tata Motors officials face angry demonstrations
Hoogly, May 25 (UNI) Tata Motors officials today faced a demonstration by angry villagers in West Bengal as they were inspecting a site in Hoogly district for setting up a plant for the ambitious Rs one lakh car announced only last week.
A group of villagers, believed to be owners of farm land in Singur village, confronted a technical team of Tata Motors when they visited the area for setting up a Rs 1,000 crore new car manufacturing plant.
The villagers shouted slogans and expressed anger at the possibility of their land being acquired by the state government for handing it over to Tata Motors for setting up the plant.
Tata Motors officials along with officials of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) left the place with security personnel holding the agitating villagers at a distance.
