Sudden showers bring cheer to chennaiites

Chennai, May 25 (UNI) Sudden showers today brought respite to the residents of this metropolis, who had been reeling under sweltering heat for over a month.

Met office here said the rain was due to the influence of a trough on sea-level chart, running from south Orissa to the extreme southern peninsula across coastal Andhra Pradesh and coastal Tamil Nadu.

Isolated rain or thundershower was likely to occur over Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry in the next two days, it said.

In a welcome relief to Chennaiites, the weather was pleasant with the sky remaining overcast since morning.

The mercury level was hovering over 40 degrees mark at many places in Tamil Nadu, making life miserable for the people.
