Shooting resumes as technicians join work in Tollygunge

Kolkata, May 25 (UNI) Shooting of Bengali films and tele serials resumed in Tollygunge studios after a section of technicians withdrew their four-hour ceasework today.

Members of Federation of Cine Technicians had struck work in the morning shattering a transient peace, brokered by the State Government yesterday. They alleged that they were being discriminated against those belonging to Broadcast Technician and Workers Association(BROTA), a rival trade union group, in regard to the share of work on studio floor.

However, the technicians joined duty in the afternoon following persuation by producers, who had already incurred huge losses because of the contiuning unrest in the film industry for the past four days.

Fracas rocked the Tollygunge studios on May 22 after the rival unions of technicians came to blows over the issue of getting work forcing the light and sound go off and units pack up. However, normal functioning resumed yesterday as the State Government mediated between the rival groups yesterday asking them not to cripple the industry.

During a meeting with representatives of the unions, Information and Cultural Affairs Secretary Dilip Chakraborty had assured that the Chief Minister would constitute a conciliatory committee to resolve the problems. He, however, warned that the Government would not allow any strike in the film industry and any such attempt would be strictly dealt with.
