Sensex closes in green; charts up 94 pts at 10,666.32
Mumbai, May 25 (UNI) After sailing in the choppy sea, the BSE Sensex today managed to end the day in green at 10,666.32, with an increase of 94 points as compared to the previous close of 10,573 points.
The day saw a high index of 10,770.20 and a swing of a total of 445.74 points.
Earlier in the morning, the 30-share Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) dipped 298 points to a low of 10,274, just a few minutes after opening, due to weaker Asian markets.
The markets opened weaker with the benchmark index opening 52 points lower at 10,520, as compared to the last close of 10,573 and then fell sharply within few minutes.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index too rose by 62 points to close at 3177.70, as compared to the previous close of 3,115 points.
The top gainers on BSE indices were oil and gas, gaining by 1.35 per cent, BSE metal by 2.93 per cent.
The major loser were BSE midcap by 0.76 per cent, smallcap by 0.99 per cent and bankex by 1.24 per cent.
The top gainers on the 30-share Sensex were - Wipro, Tata Steel, Bharti Tele, ONGC, ACC, Tata Consultancy Service, Tata Motors and Hero Honda.
The losers on the Sensex were - Tata Power, Ranbaxy, HDFC Bank, HDFC, ICICI Bank, BHEL, Bajaj Auto, ICICI, Cipla, Infosys Technologies and HDFC Bank.
Also, pursuant to the discussion with the SEBI, the exchanges are revising the cash and derivatives market segments from the current limit of 10 per cent, to five per cent.
Similarly, in respect of index products in the derivatives segment, the applicable limit is revised from six per cent to three per cent, with effect from today, a BSE release said.
