Sensex back in green; up by 20 pts at 10,593
Mumbai, May 25: Markets shrugged-off the sharp fall earlier during the day and were back in the green with the BSE Sensex up by 20 points at 10,593 points, at 1430 hrs.
THe markets recovered 300 points in the afternoon as the Sensex swung 320 points, so far in a choppy session.
Earlier in the morning, the 30-share Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) dipped 298 points to a low of 10,274, just a few minutes after opening, due to weaker Asian markets.
The markets opened weaker with the benchmark index opening 52 points lower at 10,520, as compared to the last close of 10,573 and then fell sharply within a few minutes.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index was up 31 points at 3,146.
Nifty opened lower at 3,114 points, as compared to the last close of 3,115.
Nifty, too, dipped sharply by 103 points to a low of 3,012 this morning.
The top gainers on the 30-share Sensex were - Tata Steel, Bharti Tele, ONGC, Wipro, Hindalco, Reliance, ACC, Dr Reddy's Lab, Larsen&Toubro and Tata Consultancy Service.
The losers on the Sensex were - Tata Power, Ranbaxy, HDFC Bank, HDFC, ICICI Bank, BHEL, Reliance Energy, Bajaj Auto, Maruti and Grasim Industries.
''Volatility is a reality and we shoudn't get excessively worried,'' Kotak Mahindra Bank Chairman Uday Kotak opined.
