Power tapping poses supply problems

Itanagar, May 25: Illegal electricity tapping might lead to power crisis in Arunachal's Capital Complex, particularly in its twin capital city Naharlagun.

According to sources at the power department, both the cities were facing a tight situation with possibilities of power failure during the scorching summer heat.

The recent five-day power failure at Naharlagun was because of the transformer getting burnt due to hookings, sources pointed out.

''The transformers in the Capital Complex are either fully loaded or over-loaded, particularly of Pappu-Hill and Pappu Nallah, and working beyond capacity'', sources said.

''The department, however, is making all contingency arrangements for any circumstances likely to arise out of the situation'', sources informed.

The department had placed orders for required transformers from Guwahati for the overloaded ones anticipating more power demands during the peak summer season.

The department is also planning to launch surprise raids soon to penalize illegal-power hookers in the Capital Complex, sources added.
