No need for pvt participation in Bangalore Metro rail: Reddy
Bangalore, May 25 (UNI) Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy today said there was no need for private participation in the proposed Bangalore Metro Rail project as a Special Purpose Vehicle involving both the Union and State Governments would implement it.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a conference on urban development here, he said though urban transport was a State subject, the Centre had evinced interest in joint implementation in view of the urgent need for an alternative public transport system in the growing metropolis. The project would be launched soon, he added.
The Centre would provide more funds in the form of subordinate debt to Bangalore Metro, compared to those to be implemented in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
He said all cities in Karnataka would be provided funds under the National Urban Renewal Mission and the UPA Government at the Centre would not discriminate among Governments on political lines.
