NCR to modernise 5 important stations
Kanpur, May 25 (UNI) Five important stations under North Central Railway (NCR) would be provided with modern facilities to make them as model stations within six months.
According to railway sources, the Railway Board has approved funds for the purpose and the modernisation work would start soon in Mirzapur, Allahabad, Kanpur, Etawah and Aligarh.
Facilities including electricity and drinking water at platforms, modernisation of railway station buildings, display of touch screen to provide information about trains and reservation would be provided under the programme.
Sources said information would be made available through guides and display systems on railway stations about the historical and religious places in the vicinity.
Besides, women and disabled persons would be provided with better facilities.
The railway administration has also taken a serious view of the 'zeharkhurans' (drug-and-rob gangs) and criminals operating aboard trains. The NCR will install CCTVs at railway stations such as Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Bareilly, Mughalsarai and Agra Cantonment to check such activities.
Kanpur, Varanasi, Lucknow and Moradabad are already equipped with such facilities.
