Manavjit falters in the finals, finishes 6th in Cairo World Cup
New Delhi, May 25 (UNI) Very much in the hunt for the Gold, form deserted Manavjit Singh Sandhu in the finals and the ace marksman finished a disappointing sixth in the men's Trap event at the World Cup in Cairo, Egypt.
Manavjit's score of 119 (25,23,24,23,24) saw him making to the finals as one of the joint leaders and the Gold seemed very much within reach but there he lost the plot.
His poor final score of 20 slammed the door on him and he finished tied fourth with two other shooters.
In the shoot-off, Manavjit missed his first target and finished sixth, while Spaniard Alberto Fernandez beat Czech Jan Dvorak five to four to finish fourth.
Fellow Indian Mansher Singh finished 30th with a score of 115 (25,23,24,22,21) while Anwer Sultan who was leading with a score of 49 after day one, finished 39th with a score of 114 (24,25,23,22,20).
Manavjit has already booked his berth for the Beijing Olympics when he won the event at the Kerrville leg of the ISSF World Cup.
German marksman Stefan Ruettgeroth won the Gold with a total of 142+1 (119+23), the Silver was won by Erik Varga of Slovakia with 142 (118+24) while Czech shooter David Kostelecky won the Bronze with 141 (119+22).
Tied on 142, Ruettgeroth outscored Varga in shoot-off to win the Gold and earn the Quota Place for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, according to information received here today.
