Local body polls on party basis

Pondicherry, May 25 (UNI) Elections to the post of Municipal Chairman and Council Members in the Union Territory of Pondicherry would be held on a party basis for which the State Election Commission (SEC) had accepted parties registered and recognized by the Election commision of India.

According to a press release from the SEC here today, the symbols allotted by the EC would be allotted to them. The SEC had finalised the list of parties. The Chairman and Member of the Municipal Council would be directly elected by voters while the vice-chairman of the municipal council would be elected from among the elected councillors.
