K'taka Info dept to organise refresher courses for scribes

Udupi, May 25 (UNI) Karnataka will be organising refresher and reorientation courses for scribes, especially budding journalists, from July one for upgrading their knowledge on various aspects of the profession, Information Department Commissioner K V R Tagore informed today.

Addressing newspersons here, he said the courses would be held through video conferencing and visual media for which 120 engineering colleges affiliated to the Visveswaraiah Technological University had been interconnected.

The course would be conducted by experts on various aspects of journalism, including discipline, ethics and decency, to be followed in the profession. Interactive sessions would also be held as part of the programme.

The Department also proposed to extend the training programme to taluk and hobli level, he added.

Mr Tagore informed that the department had also decided to set up an information technology (IT) hub in the state for which the Centre and the state government had jointly sanctioned Rs seven crore.

He said it had also planned to create modern media centres in all districts in the state for which it had planned technology outsourcing in consultation with the IT providers.

To a question, he said several recommendations of the Ramaiah Committee had already been implemented and pointed out that the department was providing more advertisements to rural and local papers to strengthen them financially and institutionally.
