'Issue I cards to Kashmiri Pandits in 6 months'

Srinagar, May 25: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to issue identity cards to migrant Kashmiri Pandit families, in a ''time-bound manner'', within the next six months.

''I request the state government to expedite the issue of identity cards to all these families within the next six months,'' Dr Singh said, in his concluding address at the second Roundtable on Kashmir here.

The Prime Minister said the problem of displacement of people was an ''alive one.'' ''I do realise that lives have been disrupted, livelihoods have been lost, and homes uprooted as a result of this,'' he said, adding all efforts would be made to facilitate the return of the Pandits to the valley.

''This will be in addition to the efforts to restore normalcy in the state,'' Dr Singh said.
