Heroin worth more than Rs 18 crore seized
Chennai, May 25 (UNI) Officers of the Narcotics Control Bureau, South Zonal Unit, arrested four people, including a Sri Lankan national and seized about 18 kg of heroin, worth Rs 18.8 crore.
An official release here said the officers, on a tip-off on May 24, intercepted Ahmad (38) of Sri Lanka and Irulandi (42) of Ramanathapuram at the entrance of the Ramanathapuram railway station and seized from them 15.600 kgs of heroin.
The heroin was transported from Pune to Ramanathapuram via Kasargod to be smuggled to Sri Lanka by boat.
In an another incident, yesterday, the officers intercepted Selvarajan Alias Rajan (27) and A Satheesh (24), both hailing from Kanniyakumari district at Thiruvananthapuram Railway station and seized from them 3 kg of heroin. The drug was brought from Mumbai to be smuggled to Sri Lanka by boat.
All the four were remanded to judicial custody, the release added.
