Haryana to distribute free dencha seeds

Chandigarh, May 25 (UNI) The Haryana Seed Development Corporation has decided to distribute 'dencha' seeds, worth Rs five crore, free of cost to the farmers as part of its crop diversification drive.

Corporation Chairman Roshan Lal Arya said by diversifying their crops, the farmers would get higher returns and government had been taking a number of steps to encourage them in taking up new crops.

He said the Corporation would soon take up a project with Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar to prepare dencha seeds in adequate quantity. The farmers were also being motivated to sow pulses and vegetables.

Also, gravity separator centres would be set up along seed sale complexes at Umri, Yamunanagar, Tohana, Sirsa, Hisar and Pataudi. These would help in maintaining quality of seed.

He said the state government would, with the help of Central government, formulate such a plan which would facilitate the farmers in marketing of their crops.

The Corporation would also launch a campaign to resolve the problems being faced by farmers. He said a bank and a petrol pump would be set up soon at Asia's biggest seed processing plant at Umri.
