Digvijay says reservation is imperative

Gwalior, May 25 (UNI) Describing reservation as imperative and an ''opportunity for the backward and weaker sections,'' AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh today felt that it was improper to oppose the issue.

''Media are fanning demonstrations by some students. OBC reservation enshrines a clause clearly stating that the category's creamy layer will not be entitled to the benefit,'' he told journalists here.

Alleging that Madhya Pradesh's BJP regime was shaky, the state's former chief minister quipped that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan himself had no idea how many MLAs were supporting him.

''Ex-chief minister Uma Bharti has gone on record stating that she could topple the BJP government within 24 hours. The regime has simply renamed schemes initiated during my tenure. However, nobody even refers to Ms Bharti's 'Pancha-Ja' development campaign and her successor Babulal Gaur's 'Gokul Gram' project,'' he said.

Expressing concern over the law and order situation, Mr Singh said challenges were being thrown up from every direction.

''Extortion is at an all-time high,'' he alleged.

Describing as a conspiracy the alleged inclusion of state Congress President Subhash Yadav's name -- as a payoff recipient -- in a company's diary, the seasoned leader said anyone could write a name anywhere but that could not prove guilt.
