2 killed, 5 hurt as temple car collapses
Perambalur, Tamil Nadu, May 25 (UNI) Two persons, including a priest, were crushed to death and five injured when a temple car collapsed on them during a procession after its axle broke.
Police said the car procession was being organised at the famous Selliamman Temple in Naranamangalam Village, near here, after a gap of 14 years as part of the Vaikasi celebrations.
When the car was pulled to a distance of 100 metres, the axle suddenly broke and fell on the crowds killing temple priest Muthuswamy (45) and Perumal (48) on the spot.
The injured were rushed to the Government General Hospital here.
District Collector D Vivekanandan later visited the hospital and consoled the kin of the deceased.
