XLRI plans second campus

Jamshedpur, May 24 (UNI) Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), one of the renowned B-schools in the country, is contemplating to set up its second campus somewhere in South India.

According to the sources in XLRI, though it was not finalized but Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, would be the ideal place to set up another campus for the institution.

XLRI came up in the steel city way back in 1949 and established its identity, particularly in human resources programme. XLRI had already recorded its name in the global map after launching management programmes in Dubai and Singapore.

The board of governors of the institute already gave green signal for the second campus and it would apply for AICTE's approval as soon as the venue is decided, the sources said.

With the rapid increase of applicants for the management courses the institution planned to either expand the existing campus here or open its branch somewhere else to meet the increased demand.

Since the present set up has been lacking enough space and infrastructure for further expansion, the management decided to go to a bigger city with air connectivity and adequate infrastructures to lure quality faculty.

The institution, which produced number of business tycoons like Wipro chief Azim Premji, Tata Steel Managing Director B.Muthuraman and many others, has 56 faculties now and is planning to introduce business management, personnel management and industrial relations programmes shortly, the sources said.
