Sonia fails to turn up at a function to felicitate her

New Delhi, May 24 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi today did not attend a function organised to felicitate her on her election to Lok Sabha seat from Rae Bareli, at the AICC Headquarters here.

''Ms Gandhi could not attend the function because of her preoccupation with a meeting at her residence," Mr Yogendra Makwana, former Union Minister and Chairman of the AICC, SC Department, said.

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Chairman of the AICC ST Department Ajit Jogi was the Chief Guest, while Mr Makwana presided over the function, which lasted for four hours.

Senior Congress leaders who attended the function included AICC Treasurer Moti Lal Vora, AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi and Union Minister without Portfolio Oscar Fernandese.

Speakers at the function eulogised the leadership qualities of Ms Gandhi and her services rendered to the party, Mr Makwana said.
