U.S football team skipper Reyna to undergo scan

NASHVILLE, Tennessee, May 23: U S captain Claudio Reyna is scheduled to have a scan on Wednesday to determine the extent of the hamstring injury he suffered in the 1-0 defeat against Morocco.

The Manchester City midfielder limped off the field after only 15 minutes when he over-extended his leg trying to intercept a pass yesterday.

''It's really just tightened up on me so it was just precautionary to come out,'' Reyna told reporters.

''It's really close to (the World Cup) so it's not the best timing,'' said Reyna, who missed the first match of the 2002 World Cup due to a quadriceps strain.

''Hopefully, I've gotten away with something very minor. I don't think it's going to be long term, but tomorrow we'll know better.'' The match marked the first time Reyna had played for the U S since September 2005 when the Americans defeated Mexico 2-0 to gain passage to the World Cup.

He was diagnosed with a broken right ankle in December and missed eight weeks after undergoing surgery. Three games after his comeback in March, he injured his shoulder in a match against Wigan and was out nearly four weeks.

Reyna has scored eight goals in 109 appearances for the U S and also appeared in the 1994 and 1998 finals.
