Sivaji's statue in TN capital on July 21: Barnala

Chennai, May 24 (UNI) A statue of thespian Sivaji Ganesan will adorn the beach front, Tamil Nadu Governor S S Barnala told the State Assembly today.

Delivering his customary address to the newly constituted 13th Assembly, he said Sivaji's statue will be unveiled opposite to the office of the Director General of Police at Beach road on the actor's death anniversary on July 21.

It may be recalled that during his visit to Tiruvarur to thank the people of the State for voting the party to power, DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunandhi stopped his vehicle near Pondicherry to have a closer look at the actor's statue.

Conceding the request of the film world, the previous AIADMK Government had agreed to erect a fitting memorial for Sivaji Ganesan near Satya Studios in the city. However, the project is yet to be taken up.
