Sheila asks NCR Board to concentrate on easing pressure on Delhi

New Delhi, May 24 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today asked the National Capital Region Planning Board to concentrate on easing the pressures on infrastructure services inside Delhi through rapid growth of alternative counter magnet centres.

Speaking at the 29th meeting of the NCR Planning Board here, she appreciated the finalisation and notification of the Regional Plan 2021 for the region and said she was confident that it would facilitate balanced and harmonious development of the region.

She, however, said I hope that the policies and proposals contained in the plan document would be implemented in an effective manner.

''The route to minimise the trend of migration towards Delhi lies on accelerated and balanced development of the region.'' Delhi had become a megapolis today, having a heterogeneous demographic character and a population of over 14 million. This unchecked growth in population had contributed to increasing congestion and growing string on the social, civic, economic and environmental fronts, the chief minister said.

Hence, there need was for a more dynamic role for the NCRPB, which should concentrate on easing the pressures on infrastructure services inside Delhi through rapid growth of alternative counter magnet centres, she added.

''I will like to address the apprehension that sister states sometimes have regarding sharing the load of developments around Delhi, which is ungrudgingly serving the needs of migrants coming from these states, so the neighbouring state should also not hesitate in parting with the resources like water, power and land for catering to the needs of their people, who had migrated to Delhi.'' ''Statistically, I would like to inform that the neighbouring states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan contribute about 60 per cent of the migratory population to Delhi with UP having about 40 per cent share,'' Ms Dikshit said.

Moreover, NCR had more or less emerged as one large urban conglomeration and should appropriately be conceived as a single common entity, she added.
