Sensex remains volatile after opening firm
Mumbai, May 24 (UNI) The markets continue to be volatile but calmer than the past one week after assurance from the government.
The benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened firm at 10,830 points as compared to the last close of 10,822.
The 30 share Sensitive index dipped sharply to a low of 10,622 but managed to recover and touched a high of 10,898 point in the first hour of trade.
There was quick recovery thereafter leading to Sensex trading 39 points up at 10,862 at 1100 hrs.
The top gainers on the Sensex were ICICI Bank, Cipla, Hindalco, Satyam Computers, Tata Steel, SBI and NTPC.
The top losers on the Sensex were HDFC Bank, HDFC, ONGC, Ranbaxy, Tata Power and Wipro.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index opened higher at 3,203 as comapred to the last close of 3,199.
Nifty too dipped sharply to a low of 3,129 points but bounced back later to a high of 3,235 points.
Nifty was 10 points up at 3209.35 at 1115 hrs.
