PM in town, militants kill one, 32 injured in blasts

Srinagar, May 24 (UNI) Militants killed a political activist and triggered a series of blasts, injuring to 32 people, including eleven security personnel in the Kashmir valley today when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was in the town to chair the two-day Round-Table Conference.

However, security forces and police averted two major tragedies when they detected and later defused two powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by militants in the valley.

Militants tonight hurled a hand grenade towards high security Divisional Commissioner's office near here causing injuries to two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and four civilians.

The injured have been shifted to hospital, official sources said.

In another grenade explosion at Lal Bazar in the down town city tonight a CRPF jawan was wounded, sources said.

Militants also hurled a hand grenade targeting District Police Lines, Budgam in the central Kashmir today.

However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded outside the building without causing any damage.

Official sources said militants hurled a hand grenade at the security forces at Zadibal this evening causing injuries to four police personnel and six civilians. The injured were admitted to hospitals.
