New contractors for MCD schools mid-day meals in SC tomorrow
New Delhi, May 24 (UNI) The Supreme Court will hear tomorrow a petition seeking to restrain the Municipal Corporation of Delhi(MCD) from appointing new contractors for continuing its mid day meal scheme in MCD-run schools in the city.
The petition was mentioned today by counsel for the state before a vacation bench comprising Mr. Justice B.P. Singh and Mr. Justice R.V. Raveendran seeking vacation of interim stay granted by the apex court restraining the MCD from appointing new contractors for continuing of Mid Day Meal Scheme as "children were starving." The interim stay was granted by this court on a petition filed by three contractors who have challenged a Delhi high court judgment against them.
The court directed the listing of the matter for hearing on May 25 in view of urgency of the matter keeping in view of interests of thousands of children studying in these primary schools which belong to weaker sections of the society.
