MP Sanskrit Board exam Nine jailed for copying

Tikamgarh, MP, May 24 (UNI) Seven bogus candidates and two persons aiding copying in the Madhya Pradesh Sanskrit Board's 10th standard examination, at this district's Orchha, have been sent to jail.

Besides, six teachers including Centre Superintendent K P Ahirwar, were suspended today. The accused confessed to police that Rs 5,000 was taken from each of them by the centre incharge for the liberty of copying as well as allowing their relatives to appear in the examination on their behalf.

''Orchha's Higher Secondary School was raided by police led by Niwadi's Sub-Divisional Magistrate Chandrashekhar Shukla yesterday.

A social studies paper was underway. About 200 culprits involved in copying simply fled,'' District Education Officer (DEO) Mohan Singh Sikarwar said.

The test was cancelled and the DEO terminated the Orchha Higher Secondary School as an examination centre where 400 candidates were appearing. Subsequent tests would take place at the Prithvipur School of Excellence.

''The Board has 11 exam centres in this district where 2,700 12th standard students, 1,200 -- 10th and 466 -- 8th class students are appearing,'' Mr Sikarwar added.
