MP Minorities support OBC reservation

Bhopal, May 24 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh State Minorities Commission today supported OBC reservation in higher-education institutions and suggested that a firm foundation be laid at the lowest level itself for ensuring that backwards receive education.

''The reservation dispute is regrettable and if the Centre truly wishes to educate the Backward Classes, it must take the initiative for ensuring society's participation,'' Commission Member Indira Iyengar said in a statement issued here today.

Advocating that every community's academic institutions be bestowed the responsibility of coaching backwards, she pointed out that merit should not be placed on the backburner in the name of reservation.

''Social equality is a beautiful concept, but the Governmant should activate society for bringing the concept into reality or else the demon of reservation will assume the form of a caste struggle'' she warned.
