Man sentenced to 7 yrs RI for raping minor

Mumbai, May 24 (UNI) A local court today sentenced a man to seven years rigorous imprisonment holding him guilty of raping a minor girl at Kandivali here in 1992.

Additional sessions judge S S Joshi while convicting K M Shroff, who was a documentary film producer, also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on the accused.

According to the prosecution, Shroff had engaged a 15-year-old girl in his Kandivali bungalow mainly to look after his seven-year-old daughter.

In October 1992, Shroff's wife and daughter had left for vacation to Hyderabad. Taking advantage of the situation, the man had repeatedly raped the girl. The victim had narrated the incident to her father who had lodged a complaint with the police.
