Intel Capital invests in Chennai-based tech Co
Mumbai, May 24: Intel Capital today announced an additional investment from its USD 250 million Intel Capital India technology fund, in Chennai-based Real Image Technologies Pvt Ltd.
A release issued here today said this latest investment, together with earlier announced funding in Maya Entertainment, Mauj, Mobiapps Holdings and Persistent Systems, aims at driving Indian innovation in wireless connectivity, digital media content and consumer Internet.
Real Image specialises in digital media technology for the film, video, audio and animation industry worldwide.
''This investment underscores Intel Capital's commitment to fostering technology innovation and growth in India,'' Intel Capital president Arvind Sodhani said.
This latest deal was announced at the seventh Intel Capital CEO summit currently underway in Mumbai, which brings together chief executives from Intel Capital's portfolio companies worldwide, with senior executives from Global 2000 corporations, Government representatives and education leaders, for three days of learning and deal-making focused on identifying and capitalising on opportunities offered today in India.
Intel Capital made its first strategic investment in India in 1998 and since invested in more than 40 companies across seven cities and several of these companies have since gone public or have been acquired.
Intel Capital, Intel's venture capital organisation, makes equity investments in innovative technology start-ups and companies worldwide and invests in a broad range of companies offering hardware, software, and services targeting enterprise, home, mobility, health, consumer internet and semi-conductor manufacturing.
Since 1991, Intel Capital has invested more than USD four billion in over 1,000 companies across more than 30 countries. During this time, about 160 portfolio companies have been acquired and another 150 have gone public on exchanges around the world, the release added.
