India, Bhutan sign pact for electoral management

New Delhi, May 24: The Election Commissions of India and Bhutan today entered into an agreement for promoting cooperation, consultation and exchange in the field of electoral management and administration.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed at Thimphu by Chief Election Commissioner of India B B Tandon and his counterpart Kunzan Wangdi.

The MoU calls for promoting cooperation in the field of electoral assistance between the two sides by promoting initiatives designed to strengthen electoral systems and democratic institutions; promoting exchanges of knowledge, information, experience and technical knowhow; training of personnel and development of human resources; capacity building, production and dissemination of materials pertaining to electoral systems voting technology, voters education and awareness.

Both the commissions will conduct periodic consultations to ensure appropriate follow up.
