Gonikoppal Panchayat President arrested

Madikeri, May 24 : Police have arrested Gonikoppal Gram Panchayat President B D Mukunda on the charge of attempt to murder.

According to police, Mukunda had heated exchanges with his neighbour Veeraj, an APMC member, over a property dispute, yesterday. An enraged Mukunda allegedly attacked Veeraj with a billhook and the latter was admitted to a hospital in Mysore.

Veeraj was said to be recovering.

Meanwhile, MLC Arun Machaiah and others entered the police station and pushed Mukunda into lock up as he was writing a counter complaint.

Zilla Panchayat member M K Nanjappa alleged that the police did not register any case against Veeraj even though he had attacked Mukunda and his wife after trespassing into their house.

Mukunda, who was in custody yesterday, was shifted to a hospital at Virajpet today.
