Goa to become SriLankan Airlines' 50th destination

New Delhi, May 24 (UNI) Goa will become SriLankan Airlines' 50th global destination and 10th in India with the airline planning to launch services from Colombo in October.

The twice-weekly flights of two hours' duration are scheduled for Mondays and Saturdays.

SriLankan is the largest foreign carrier operating to India with nearly 100 weekly flights to New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Trichy, Thiruvananthapuram, Calicut and Kochi.

''SriLankan has positioned itself as the link between India and rest of the world,'' said its chief executive officer Peter Hill.

''We have been steadily expanding our presence and are very excited about commencing services to Goa which has excellent commercial prospects.'' Travel between India and Sri Lanka is at an all-time high with Indians being among the most frequent visitors to Sri Lanka. In return, Sri Lankans now rank as the third largest block of visitors to India after the United States and Britain.
