'Devi Lal can't be compared with Rajiv Gandhi'

Chandigarh, May 24 (UNI) The contribution of the late Haryana strongman Devi Lal can not be compared with the sacrifice made by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for the sake of the nation, Haryana Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Dharambir Singh said today.

Mr Singh made this statement when his attention was drawn to the proposal of some Congress leaders to instal statues of the assassinated Prime Minister at some places in Haryana even as the party had opposed the INLD's act of putting up Mr Devi Lal's statues all over the state.

''Devi Lal makes no comparison with the sacrifice made by Mr Rajiv Gandhi,'' he said.

Moreover the INLD had installed Devi Lal's statues at every nook and cranny of the state and the Congress had no such plans with regard to Mr Gandhi, the CPS said.

The INLD had been justifying the installation Mr Devi Lal's statues on a large scale, saying he was a freedom fighter.
