Compensation for crops damaged by wild elephants hiked
Mumbai, May 24 (UNI) Maharashtra Cabinet today hiked the amount of compensation to farmers whose crops were damaged by wild elephants in the state.
Addressing a press conference, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said farmers who had suffered losses to the tune of Rs 2000 will get the entire amount as compensation. If the amount of loss is between Rs 2000 and Rs 10,000, the farmer will get Rs 2000 and 50 per cent of loss to crops over Rs 2000.
The Cabinet has also decided to increase the rate of supplementary nutritious food under the integrated child development scheme. As the Centre Government has decided to share the amount to be spent on the programme, the state government will save Rs 67 crore.
