Commonwealth Games Apex Committee reconsitituted

New Delhi, May 24 (UNI) Union Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyer will head the reconstituted 13-member high powered apex committee for the Commonwealth Games to be held here in 2010.

The reconstitution of the committee, which will have the overriding power and responsibility for overseeing and coordinating the 2010 Games was announced here today.

Chairman of the Apex Committee will have the power to call for such information which he deems fit and to give such guidance that may be required.

The minutes of all other committees related to the conduct of 2010 Games shall be submitted to the Apex Committee periodically for its information.

Other members of the committee, of which Secretary Youth affairs and Sports S Y Qureshi will be the convenor, are Ram Niwas Mirdha, Kiran Karnik (President NASSCOM), P Sivanthi Adityan (Subject to confirmation), K V Kamath (Chairman ICICI), S Shankar Menon (Former Additional Chief Secretary Maharashtra), Prof Deepak Nayar (Former Vice Chancellor of Delhi University), V K Shungul (Former CAG), K T S Tulsi (Supereme Court Advocate), Shiv Nadar (Chairman HCL), Prakash Narain (Former chairman Railway Board) and V S Ailwadi (Senior Advocate).

However, a senior Indian Olympic Association(IOA) official told UNI that this is only an advisory body which has been just reconsituted. The earlier committee had 37 members, he added.
