Centre misleading nation on quota issue: Mulayam

Barabanki, May 24: Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today alleged the central government was misleading the nation on the issue of OBC reservation in higher educational institutions.

''Congress is merely staging a drama on the quota issue as part of a larger conspiracy of the UPA government against the backward community,'' Mr Yadav told newspersons here.

''The proposed middle path to resolve the issue will only prove detrimental to both the backwards and upper castes.'' The CM maintained he had always supported 10 per cent reservation to poor among the upper castes.

Mr Yadav also lambasted the UPA government for inflation and ''anti-farmer'' policies.

The SP chief was here in connection with a private engagement.
