About 60 Taliban said killed in Afghan clash

KABUL, May 24 (Reuters) About 60 Taliban fighters and four Afghan government soldiers were killed in a battle in the southern province of Uruzgan, a news agency reported today.

The commander of Afghan forces in the south, General Rahmatullah Raufi, said the battle occurred yesterday evening and the bodies of about 60 militants had been found, the Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic Press said.

The general was not immediately available for comment.

An Interior Ministry spokesman in Kabul said he had heard 10 Taliban were killed in the battle on the outskirts of the Uruzgan provincial capital, Tirin Kot.
