4 Bangladeshi cattle smugglers shot dead by BSF

Basirhat, May 24(UNI) Four Bangladeshi cattle smugglers were shot dead by the Border Security Force jawans during an encounter at Ghojadanga close to the Indo-Bangladesh International border, BSF sources today said.

They said two cows were also killed during the firing which took place last night.

Sources said a BSF patrol party, patrolling at Ghojadanga in North 24 Parganas, could recover two of the four bodies, and the dead cattle from the spot after the encounter. The smugglers took the two other bodies across the border and entered Satkshira district of Bangladesh, they said.

The BSF sources said the gang of Bangladeshi smugglers, numbering around fifty, were smuggling a few hundred cows when the patrol team chased them and fired at the gang resulting in the encounter. The operation continued for hours.

Most of the smugglers were able to cross the border canal with the cattle leaving behind the bodies of two of their members.

The BSF men later recovered the bodies and sent than to Basirhat.
