2 women killed in ceremonial firing

Kanpur, May 24 (UNI) Two women were killed and another injured in a ceremonial firing at a marriage in Sarraikheda village under Sajeti area here late last night, police today said.

The bridegroom's father Sundar Lal Yadav took the rifle of his brother-in-law and fired in air to celebrate the occasion.

While reloading the rifle, its trigger got pressed accidently and the bullet hit Maya (38) -- a close relative of the bridegroom -- and Kamlesh Kumari (30). Both succumbed on the spot.

Another woman standing nearby was also injured. She was, however, out of danger, police added.

The bodies had been sent for autopsy.

Meanwhile, Sundar Lal and Sukhi Ram are absconding.
