Villagers take police officers hostage

Bhagalpur, May 23 (UNI) Two police officers, including the officer in-charge of Bath police station under Bhagalpur district, were taken as hostage and kept in captivity by some villagers since morning today.

Deputy police superintendent Sanjay Bharti said the villagers of Kumaitha Shyamapur were agitated over lack of response from the authorities to their demand for removal of officer in-charge Dinesh Kumar and police inspector Pramod Singh from Bath.

The villagers alleged that the officers' took a partisan role during panchayat polls at Sultanganj block.

Villagers accused the police officers of influencing polling in favour of a particular candidate, he added.

Senior district officials rushed to the spot to rescue the police personnel, Mr Bharti said.
