New SEC for TN

Chennai, May 23 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government has appointed Mr D Chandrasekaran as the new State Election Commissioner (SEC).

An officer of the Indian Administrative Services of the 1992 batch, he was previously the Special Secretary in the Tamil Development-Culture and Religious Endowments Department, an official release here said.

The appointment followed the resignation of Mr V Palanichamy, whose extension of tenure by the earlier AIADMK Government has been challenged in Madras High Court.

A native of Vellore, Mr Chandrasekaran held the posts of Pudukottai District Collector (1994), Managing Director of the Housing Board (1996-98) and Director of the Town Panchayats (1999-2001).
