National Youth Volleyball begins in B'lore from May 25
Bangalore, May 23 : Top volleyball teams in the country will be seen in action in the 10th National Youth Volleyball (Under-21) Championship to be held in the city from May 25 to 30.
Briefing newspersons here, Former Karnataka Minister A Krishnappa said the city-based South East Asian Education Trust would be hosting the event in which 17 states would take part in the men's section and 12 in women's section.
The championship, which was held last at Udupi in Karnataka, was being revived after a gap of six years.
The teams to take part in men's section were Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan, Orissa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Haryana and hosts Karnataka.
In Women's section, Kerala, Haryana, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Karnataka would be seen in action.
The teams had been divided into four groups and the championship would be played under league-cum-knockout basis, he said.
The winners in both categories would bag Rs 1.25 lakh prize money while runners-up would take home Rs 75,000.
Following are the Karnataka teams: Men: Ganesh Rai (Capt), Dharnish Kumar, Hemanth Kumar, Sanoj, Kiran Kumar, Sampath, Girish, Mahesh, Vishwanath, Mohd. Sameer, Vinod and Ravindra. Coach: Basavaraj Hosmath.
Women: Kavya (Capt), Seema, N Swetha, Ramya, Vinaya, Mythri, Teena M Jain, Ashwini, Priyanka, Prithika, Impushree and Rohini.
Coach: L Krishne Gowda.
